“- Before we dig into pitch correction with Auto-Tune, I want to take a brief moment to explain the concept of pitch, how we perceive it and how software like Auto-Tune can recognize it. Sound as we experience it is made up of positive and negative changes in atmospheric pressure interacting with our ear drums. This ebb and flow of air particles, like waves on the ocean, push and pull with differing amounts of force, what we refer to as Amplitude and at different oscillation rates, what we refer to as Frequencies. When the rate of push and pull is consistent or what we call Periodic, we will perceive that sound as having a specific pitch. For example, an A4 on a piano has a fundamental rate of change, or frequency of 440 cycles per second, or 440 Hertz, meaning the sound's amplitude climbs up and down 440 times every second and we perceive a pitch of A4.
